In 2020 the Texas food and fiber educational system is composed of all institutions of higher education . It recognizes its strategic global position and collaborates with state, national and international diverse partners to offer timely teaching, research and continuing education programs. Such programs are easily accessible to all potential users and the system uses novel educational approaches, including the use of latest communications technology. It communicates information about agriculture and natural resources effectively with the general public and it enhances leadership and human skills of students, faculty, industry professionals and community leaders.
Purpose: To create a model food and fiber education system that listens and responds to agriculture, food and environment needs of 21st Century Texas.
The Food Systems Professions Education (FSPE) initiative is a long-term effort funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation at thirteen land grant universities across the United States. The objective of the initiative is to facilitate recreating the nation's food and agriculture education system to serve a society that has become very different from that served by the original land grant system. In Texas, Project 2020 Vision is in the second year of a five-year project to create stronger linkages among food and agriculture education programs statewide, and to begin the longer term process of fundamentally changing the education system that prepares food and fiber professionals for 21st century Texas. The effort is composed of eight components and involves agencies and universities of the Texas A&M University System, Texas Tech University, and the Houston Community College System. Collectively, they are a model for organizational interaction and cooperation.
