Changing Majors
Are you considering changing your major to Agricultural Leadership & Development, Agricultural Science or Agricultural Communications & Journalism?
If you are, then please read the following information carefully. It outlines important procedures and deadlines that are part of our decision-making processes.
Step 1: Please study this Web site and your University Catalog (the large book you received when you first came to Texas A&M) to make sure that you understand the course requirements and the focus of each major you are considering. All three differ in focus and in the career choices. You need to be prepared to answer questions about why you selected a given major and how that major fits into your long-term goals.
Step 2: Using the links below, please click on your desired major. You will have access to a Web-based application form where you can tell us about yourself and your goals.
Step 3: Complete all the blanks and questions on the form. Consider your answers carefully and allow sufficient time to complete the application. Your answers are important and, in some instances, they provide the primary information we use to make our admission decisions. Please note the word limit on each section. The computer will not allow you to submit any answers over those limits.
Step 4: Wait for an e-mail notifying you of our decision. Each major follows different time schedules and procedures from this point. The schedules and procedures are outlined below.
Agricultural Leadership & Development: Students should NOT call the department for a decision. The admissions committee meets the following times and you will receive an e-mail informing you of their decision and any necessary next steps soon after these dates. Mid October prior to Spring pre-registration December after grades are posted Late March prior to Summer and Fall pre-registration May after grades are posted Mid August after summer grades are posted.
Agricultural Communications & Journalism: Please call 862-3001 to make an appointment AFTER you have completed and submitted your online application form. You will be required to meet with an Agricultural Journalism advisor to discuss additional application requirements.
Agricultural Science: Please call (979)845-2951 to make an appointment with an advisor AFTER you have completed and submitted your online application form.
